We have under 40 days until the season tips off and I am hoping to spark some discussion about our upcoming season to help the time pass. I’m sure most of you like myself have wondered how good we can be this year coming off of back to back regular season champs and a record breaking year. It will certainty help when we have a full schedule to look at but give me any and all thoughts on what the raiders will look like come November 25th.
My starting 5: Calvin, Hall, Finke, Holden, Love. Coming off of the bench: Basile, Harris, Mann’s and maybe even true freshman Andrew Welage.
My name doesn’t end with Nagy so obviously I have no idea who will be starting/coming off the bench. Let’s hear who you guys think will be playing and what role some of the new kids can have if we aren’t redshirting anybody because of the extra year of eligibility.
I’m looking for as much discussion as possible here so if you don’t care who plays or how much they play then lets hear what your ideal season ending is. If we go 23-4 and lose in the conference tourney again then yeah it will be heart breaking, but every loss to finish the season is heartbreaking. Will you be happy just to watch Raider Basketball or do we somehow expect to make an NCAA tournament appearance because of how good Nagy has been. I believe he has won HLCOY 3 years straight now splitting it once right? That’s flat out INSANE. I think we can all agree that getting more national exposure for WSU is what we want most but does it have to be via a NCAA tournament win or maybe by going back to back to back, or possibly by competing with a Top 10 team like Illinois in the MTE. What’s your goal for the year? None of us know whats going to happen but I’m curious how big our heads have gotten from the past couple years.
Say something, anything, everything you’re thinking!

As far as the starting 5 goes, I was thinking the same as you until I saw Coach Nagy's quote about playing slower and pounding the ball inside. That made me wonder if we would start Jaylon at the 1, and play Basile next to Love. I would prefer to have the spacing Calvin provides, but I will be curious to see how it goes. I also am worried about who the main ball handler will be if Calvin and Hall are both sitting. Harris is the logical choice, but he seemed like more of a slashing wing from what I remember of his highlight videos. My hope is to compete with Illinois, and win the Horizon again. An NCAA tournament win would be great, and definitely possible this year if Calvin/Finke/Basile are who we hope they are after another year in our system!

My starting 5: Hall, Finke, Holden, Basile, Love. Coming off of the bench: Calvin, Harris, and Manns will be first 3 off the bench. Coach likes experience and or top 8 have all been in our system for at least a year practicing together. I think all the freshmen get some form of minutes this year since it's a free year of eligibility for everyone. I hope we have enough big leads in some of our games that they all get some extended minutes. Any real playing time is only going to make them better over the next 4 years.

I also have been projecting a starting five of Calvin, Hall, Holden, Finke, and Love. The point guard position seems to be the biggest question mark. Undoubtedly Calvin and Hall will see minutes at PG, but who else? Welage played some point guard in high school. Will he get minutes there?

I'm guessing the starters will be: Calvin, Hall, Finke, Holden, Love. Hoping Basile gets plenty of playing time, but I will not be overly disappointed if he's not in the starting lineup.
- The player I'm most intrigued to see is Jaylon Hall. He's definitely a well-rounded player, but is he a guy we can rely on for 12-15 PPG?
- Interested in seeing the progression of Calvin, all everyone heard about the guy coming in was about his 3-point shooting. I remain confident he'll find his stroke.
- I am certainly excited for this team, but I felt more optimistic entering last season knowing they would be in good hands with Gentry at the point and a go-to guy on the perimeter in Wampler.

I'm with the group that thinks Calvin, Hall, Holden, Finke, Love will be in the starting line-up. Like others, I am concerned about the point guard position. I hope we can get some play there from one of the new guys. I don't want to see Hall at the point because I think he is way too careless with the ball.
Nagy said recently that this is the deepest team he's had since he's been here. Then he alluded to a ground-and-pound style of offense. I'm not so sure about that. Even though Love runs well for a big guy, I can see a ground-and-pound style to force teams to deal with him. However, with considerable depth I can see up tempo at times and I expect to see fierce defending at all times.
It looks to me like the only thing that could slow down the team this year is the point guard position.

Really surprised there’s not a lot of love for Basille in here. I am PUMPED to see that guy on the floor more this year.

My biggest concern has always been our lack of big men. I'd love to see him on the floor with Love but do we have the depth behind Basile for this to happen & not have a huge drop in height/quality of players?

I don’t think it really matters who starts. I think Finke, Calvin, and Grant are all going to play major minutes and be major contributors. My main interest right now is will Manns finally make that big jump in his decision making that will earn him major minutes this year and which of the freshmen step up and earn their way into the rotation.

If Manns plays well enough to be considered on the level of a 6th man for WSU (on both ends of the floor)...look out.

Makes a lot of sense to slow down the pace of play if we are going to give Lou and Grant some run at the same time in games. I think you have to at this point - Basile much too talented to primarily play only when Lou comes out.

If Manns can somehow resemble his 3 point % from last year and stay above 40% and in addition Calvin breaks out and shows his potential we will be so tough to beat. Then throw in Finke and we could shoot 35 3’s a game and nobody would complain. I’m joking obviously but if those 3 are on there’s not a team in the league who can shoot better.

I'd throw Holden in there too. He didn't shoot many threes last year, but connected on 42% (14/33). Who knows how much the freshman will play, but I'd also include Welage and Huibregtse, who both shot around 47% as seniors on threes. Welage was even 52% as a junior.
