I wonder if WKU gives Darrin Horn another call...

You almost never see a college team needing a new voice as coach because the players have tuned him out. That's usually reserved for the pros where the rosters aren't necessarily turned over ever 4 years. It does seem like the 'my way or the highway' approach just doesn't resonate with the younger generation and our current locker room if you read between the lines on some of those quotes.
Hopefully we can lock down Jaheem and it's a good sign that he's still deciding rather than already asking for his release. Excited to keep our other two recruits in the fold for sure. Thought we were headed for a lean couple years and full rebuild. If the pieces stay in place we'll be able to judge Sargent's coaching abilities sooner rather than later which is also a good thing for our future.

Is Nagy a candidate for these MVC openings in Illinois? nobody wants old school Nagy lol Although this one aged poorly as well. Not where I thought we'd be a week ago.

Would make for a nice assistant coach here if we're looking for one. We still have a good relationship with the Illinois Wolves AAU program, yes? My post aged very poorly here. Maybe he can just be our head coach.

Nothing about our program the last couple years says we should be seeking consistency by promoting from within for our AD and head coach position. Multiple people have commented about a general lack of buzz around the program the past couple season - things feeling stale. That's not the time to keep the status quo.
I'd prefer Nagy stay because I think he's better than what we will find to replace him. But if he leaves, we need to interview Cooley or find some new blood to inject some excitement. I feel like it's going to be a rebuild even if we promoted Sargent so what's the point in going that route? If we can pay upwards of $500k we should be able to get someone with head coaching experience or a top level assistant that would be getting looks from other programs. Sargent ain't it.

Any shot we can get involved here? I know we had interest out of high school - guessing he's looking for more PT

Why? Why are some of these guys even on our radar? Imo we didn't lose much via transfers but we of course lost a lot with Trey and Tanner. They should have been prepared for that though...at least you'd they would be. What's the strategy here? His stats are pretty bad tbh Because we have to fill a roster with 13 scholarship players. The YSU player you linked in your example has better stats than Welage and has more eligibility remaining (so potential to improve) than Andrew who would be in his final year. He may even play defense. And Welage was one of our key bench players last year so safe to assume would have had at least that role next year for us.

And better coaching. Anyone else notice that Dan Bere is busting his ass recruiting the portal and JUCO ranks. Our other coaches, not so much. I don't think it is much of a coincidence that the program started to decline when Coach Cooley and Coach Chambliss left a couple of years back. Our current group of assists are not getting it done recruiting or getting the most out of our players. As much as we need to hit a couple of home runs in the portal, Nagy needs to shake up this staff and bring in some hungry young coaches that want to get out and recruit. Trice, in particular, is not pulling his weight whatsoever. Yep. Especially as much as Nagy always says he leans on his assistants. Does Trice still have his insurance sales gig or is he finally a full time assistant coach?

FWIW - the good programs are back-channeling already before kids hit the portal and have a good idea who is going to become available and many kids enter the portal already with a good idea where they are going. If our coaches are waiting a couple days before even evaluating kids they may be interested in we are really battling with one hand behind our back.

Nagy's quotes in the DDN article about Grant's retirement didn't seem indicative of someone on their way out.
Hopefully some kids we were recruiting out of HS that went elsewhere hit the portal. That's likely our best bet for everyone wanting us to sign some new transfers for next year.

Norris must be feeling pretty good about his decision to redshirt right about now.
In line for about 38 minutes and 4 points per game. Yay?

Well at least we preserved his redshirt for his next school so they can get the full benefit of his services. /tic
