Now that the season is over, what does everyone see as our biggest "to do list" for our players, coaches, and athletic department to make 2019/20 a successful year for Wright State?

Players: Most importantly, I hope everyone comes back. Almost everyone that was available to play, played this year. Manns is really the only scholarship player that didn't see the court much and I still don't want to see him go if he is willing to put in the work this off season to improve his game. The next priorities should be hitting the weight room hard, especially our younger players and incoming players. Historically, physical teams are more successful and less injury prone than other team. I would like everyone to work on their FT shooting. I want our guards to put up a 1000 3 pointers a day. I want everyone to practice making layups in traffic. As for our incoming freshmen class, I really hope they all enroll this summer and get into the weight room with our current players and get into as many open gyms as they can. The more they get to know each other the more we are going to gel as a team. Some of them are going to red-shirt, but some of them are going to need to contribute.
Coaches: I want our coaching staff to re-recruit all of our current players to make sure they know how important they are to the team. I don't want to lose returning players. Second, I want them to finish out our 2019 recruiting class. We need to find a big, preferable one that can contribute next year. Third, I want they to finish off our schedule for next year. I think we all expect next year to be a HL championship caliber team. I want a schedule that will help us get a 11-13 seed if we make the dance. I don't want to win the HL just to get a 14-16 seed. No more D2 games.
Athletic Department: Bob Grant needs to have 3-4 priorities this off season. Number one is signing Nagy to a contract extension. Nagy just finished year 3 of his 5 year initial contract with Wright State. Time to lock him in for several more years. Grant needs to step up his fund raising effort. He needs to help our coaching staff with scheduling. It was Grant's connections that got us a 2-1 contract with UC a few years ago. He needs to get more involved so we don't schedule any more D2 games. Last but not least, he needs to help increase our basketball attendance next year. I think he needs to lower prices and advertise more. Get more fans in the stands and make the game atmosphere better. Attendance and revenue will go up if we can show more Miami Valley basketball fans that Wright State is legit and a bargain compared to the other team in town.

The absolute most important thing next season will be what happens in the offseason...no rust. And what I mean by “no rust” is this; we can not spend all of November and December deciding if we suck or if we are going to be a good mid major program, getting the rust off. Are we champions or are we not? No more starting the season off like crap for months and then digging ourselves out of the hole with incredible performances down the stretch only to be a 15 or 14 seed anyways. Win in November the same way you win in March. Play every month at the same level. That is the most important thing for this program and it is on the coaches and players in my opinion.

That’s not rust. That’s incorporating 3-4 new guys into the rotation and trying to teach them to play team defense. We shouldn’t have that problem next year if everyone is back who is supposed to be back.

It is the norm to have multiple new guys in the system, not the exception. We need to be one of the smooth teams that gets it going right away. And keeping everyone from this season matters in that of course! I am confident that systems under Nagy should have things clicking early on and not need the entire non conference or most of it to figure themselves out!

Well whatever we want to call it, we can’t have any of it next year. It is the norm to have multiple new guys in the system, not the exception. It is the norm in college hoops to add 3-4 new guys to your team each year. It is most definitely not the norm for a good team to add multiple new guys to your playing rotation each year. The really good mid-majors are almost always veteran teams. This is even more important in Nagy's system because he likes to red-shirt most of his freshmen and make them learn for a year before they even see the court. We are going into year 4 of the Nagy era at WSU. This should be his first team that really has some experience and depth with experience. Year one everyone was new to his system. Year 2, we went 7-8 players deep and 4 of those guys were first year players for WSU (Gentry, Love, Winchester, and Hall). Year 3, we went 7-8 deep again and 3 of those players were first year players for WSU (Wampler, Smith, and Potter) and a 4th (Vest) barely saw the court prior to this year. Next year will be a first for Nagy. He returns 6 experienced players (Wampler, Gentry, Love, Hall, Smith, and Potter) that have all played in his system together.

I wish our athletic department would go all in and just try to increase our fan base next year. We are going to have a good team so it’s the year to try to get more fans in the arena and let them experience Raider basketball and try to convert them to ongoing fans. Bob Grant just seems to half ass this every year. They do some events to try to sell more season tickets. They do some multiple game ticket packs or bogo game ticket packs to try to increase atttendance.
We need to go all in. Drastically reduce ticket prices for season tickets and advertise the hell out of it. Offer better family pricing for season tickets. Get more students to the games. Offer more pregame events in the McLynn gym for students with free food and drinks and more student events during the games to keep them there and excited. I know we do some stuff for the military. We should do more. Offer 2 free tickets for anyone with a military ID (up to 500 per game) and have a whole section of the Nutter Center dedicated to the men and women who serve America. We could also do a free giveaway to someone in that section every game. I’m sure it wouldn’t take any effort to find a sponsor who wants to get involved with honoring a member of our military.
There are so many things we can do to fill the Nutter Center that we just don’t seem to want to do. Hell, find a business professor that is into hoops and have him offer extra credit to business or marketing majors that will help run some of these in game promos. Find some professors in our broadcasting school that will offer credits to students that will make some cool short videos to play on the center court video monitors at half time or during time outs. There are a ton of ways to improve the in game experience without spending much money.

Those are all good ideas Jazzfan. I also wish Grant would go after the handful of die hard student fans we have each year. Grant needs to take those kids under his wing and empower them to attract more students to come to games. give a handful of those kids access to your copy machines so they can put flyers up each week before games. Give them the whiteout and blackout giveaway shirts a week in advance of the event so they can wear them around campus to show other students what is being given away at the upcoming games. Get them into the arena and then do some events directed towards keeping them there and excited and all of a sudden you have a fan base.

Get some additional "Big Man" coaching help for Louden. Teach him how to finish at the rim without putting the ball on the floor. Add a 5-10 foot facing the basket jump shot to his repertoire if possible. Right now, he's basically a one dimensional player on offense, playing entirely with his back to the basket. If he could learn to score facing the basket as well, he would be nearly impossible to guard in the HL.

Agree with a lot of points on here. With the recruits coming in, I am hoping we can get more players on the floor for a good rotation. I would like to see a few players that can take the ball to the bucket strong outside of Loudon. Potter has shown flashes of it and I hope a couple of others will do the same. I like the idea of Loudon working on a 10 foot jumpshot to boost his overall game. It would make him more versatile.
The sky is the limit with this team and see next year as another leap towards a great season. Lets keep Nagy and start packing the Nutt House. I am looking forward to it as I am buying season tickets for the first time next year.

I would love to see Potter and Smith get comfortable shooting from 3. Potter came in with the reputation as a shooter, and sometimes it takes guys a season or 2 to get comfortable shooting at this level. I think both have the form to improve and hit 3s consistently.
I think we are pretty set at 4 of the 5 starting spots next year (assuming everyone comes back).
Gentry Hall Wampler Love
I will be curious to see if Smith or Potter get the starting nod, or if one of the incoming freshman or Basile are good enough to push both to the second unit.
I also think that Basile being able to play 20-25 minutes per game next year is absolutely vital. He is going to play all of the minutes Love is on the bench, plus some along side him. I don't know if there are any JUCO or grad transfer bigs out there, but I would love to get one with our last scholarship.
Looking back at Nagy's most successful run with his own recruited players (2011-2016), it looks like he consistently likes to play 8 guys more than 10 minutes per game. I would expect the same next year.
Gentry Hall Smith Potter Wampler Love Basile
I am curious which one of the freshman, or Manns, pushes for that 8th spot.

We have four freshman coming in and one open scholarship right now I think? With those solid 7, I’d hope we only redshirt two of the incoming guys, assuming whoever else we add is a transfer required to sit out, which may not be the case but seems most likely at this point in the year. Only because if we want to play 8 guys, it’d be nice to have a ninth considering the dumb luck we had with injuries this year. And hopefully that is never a problem. But would hate to waste a year of eligibility on a new kid only for him to never play if our other guys remain healthy also. Coach will figure it out

If Manns cannot get into the rotation next year, assuming he stays, then I doubt he ever will. I think all of the the other 7 returning players are locks for the rotation. As mre stated above, Nagy and staff will certainly figure it out.

bbj, I only get to see a handful of games so tell me. has love shown any inclination to use the hook shot when he posts up with his back to the basket. That is the greatest weapon in the world for a guy his size! totally unstoppable!!!
